The new Anniversary Monkey is both a celebration and a statement. A celebration of the fact that this year marks the 70th anniversary since Kay Bojesen carved the first smiling lines for the iconic Monkey. And a statement because the Anniversary Monkey is born out of a principle of responsibility in craftsmanship and design. The new family member is made from leftover wood, which means there may be variations in the types of wood: teak, walnut, oak, ash, maple, limba, mahogany, etc. We cannot guarantee the types of wood each of the monkeys is made from due to the limited supply of leftover wood. In this way, it gives new life to wood through craftsmanship and design.

The result is a Monkey that combines heritage, types of wood, and nuances – a true collector’s item. Therefore, each Anniversary Monkey has its own unique expression and story. The first Monkey saw the light of day in 1951 – and we produce the Monkey the same way today as back then. Each figure is handmade. Through the smiling lines and unique forms, Kay Bojesen brings wood to life across generations. The Anniversary Monkey is a special edition of the iconic monkey made from leftover wood. The special edition has a 70th anniversary stamp on its paw and comes in a special anniversary wooden box in 2021 in limited quantities.

In 2023, Kay Bojesen’s iconic and beloved Elephant celebrates its 70th anniversary. We are celebrating with a Reworked Elephant – a special edition created from a delightful mix of various types of wood, such as teak, walnut, oak, ash, and maple – all surplus and leftover wood that would otherwise have gone to waste. With a focus on upcycling and minimizing resource waste, the Reworked Elephant gains a new, modern, and sustainable dimension, pointing not only to the past but also to the future. In the production process, available leftover wood is used out of respect for the environment, and therefore each Reworked Elephant will look different, depending on which types of wood are available on the day they are produced. In other words, we cannot guarantee the types of wood each Reworked Elephant is made from. But we can guarantee that each Elephant is possibly even more unique than the original classic. The Mini Reworked Elephant measures 9 cm in height, has a 70th anniversary stamp under its foot, and comes in a special anniversary wooden box.
